Make Feathered Friends

One of the most delightful experiences at Black Sheep Farm is encountering our wide variety of birds. The farm is home to the majestic peacock, with its iridescent plumage and regal demeanour. These beautiful birds are a sight to behold as they strut around the farm, occasionally fanning their feathers in a dazzling display.

Equally captivating are the kookaburras, whose distinctive laughter-like calls echo through the trees. These iconic Australian birds often perch high in the branches, providing a chorus of sounds that adds a unique soundtrack to your visit.

The barn swallows, with their swift, graceful flights, dart through the air in search of insects, adding to the dynamic avian population. Roosters and chickens roam freely, contributing to the farm's rustic charm and providing fresh eggs for breakfast—a true farm-to-table experience.

Black Sheep Farm is also home to a fascinating array of reptiles. Keep an eye out for the water dragons basking by the pond or swiftly darting into the water. These remarkable creatures are known for their striking appearance and agile movements.

Our monitors, large lizards native to Australia, can often be spotted sunning themselves on rocks or scurrying through the underbrush. Their presence is a testament to the rich biodiversity that thrives at the farm.

In the evenings, the farm comes alive with the croaks of tree frogs and toads. These amphibians are vital to our ecosystem, and their chorus is a soothing backdrop to a serene night under the stars.

Discover the Mammals

The lush landscape of Black Sheep Farm provides a perfect habitat for a variety of mammals. Families will love spotting the adorable pademelons, small marsupials that are often seen hopping around the farm. These shy and gentle creatures are a joy to observe, especially for children.

The "black sheep" in our name reside with our neighbours, not us and refers to people. When the sheep do come to visit we have found them to be  friendly and curious, often approaching visitors in search of a gentle pat or a tasty treat.

The farm is a paradise for insect enthusiasts. The vibrant butterflies fluttering among the flowers create a picturesque scene that is perfect for photography. Among our more unique residents are the huhu beetles, whose distinctive appearance fascinates both young and old.

While the farm is a haven for delightful creatures, we also share this space with some of Australia’s more exotic wildlife. Bees, spiders, snakes, leeches, and ticks are all part of the ecosystem. We can provide information to ensure that your encounters with these creatures are safe and respectful.
